MULTISPECTRAL
12 Programmable wavelengths

Throughout recent years, multispectral vision systems gained increasing importance in industrial processes. As a matter of fact, their underlying technology allows them to detect and highlight not only the inside of the products, but also potential defects that would be invisible with conventional wavelengths.

Genesi Elettronica, to meet the needs of its customers, has developed a Multispectral System characterised by 12 programmable wavelengths, from 365mm (UVA) to 1900 mm (SWIR).

As a result of its versatility, it is possible to integrate the Multispectral System in several contexts, such as:

  • In prototypes of certain machinery where there is the need to understand which illumination is the most suitable for a given object with a single illuminator;
  • In industrial machinery that are aimed at analysing several products placed on a single line;
  • In testing laboratories where it is necessary to highlight material samples using specific wavelengths.

What distinguishes this product from other lighting solutions for the industrial process is the overall structure of the system, which is characterised by the combined use of:

  • Swir camera;
  • Swir Optics, to be integrated in the camera;
  • LED lighting systems.

The adoption of a Swir camera for multispectral vision represented a breakthrough for observing objects and/or materials that are invisible when analysed with conventional wavelengths, due to its ability in capturing images using lights belonging to the infrared spectrum, namely the Swir spectrum.

In the application demonstration, it has been used an ace2 visSwir camera, developed by Basler, which, when employed in combination with the Genesi LED illuminator pertaining to the Multispectral line, is capable of detecting elements otherwise invisible to the typical wavelengths. As shown above, the contents of a sweet package whose wrapper is fully covered.

Genesi family of multispectral LED illuminators consists of:

  • BAR LIGHT – GEVXD28-MS: used for linear or matrix cameras, it is characterised by the switching on of a single wavelength from 0 to 100% or the simultaneous switching on of more than one wavelength, up to a maximum of 12 wavelengths;
  • RING LIGHT GEST220-MS: used in matrix camera vision systems, it is characterised by the switching on of a single wavelength from 0 to 100% or the simultaneous switching on of more than one wavelength, up to a maximum of 12 wavelengths;
  • FLAT DOME – GF300300-MS: used in all those applications where soft light is required, it is characterised by the lighting of a single wavelength from 0 to 100% or by the simultaneous lighting of more than one wavelength, up to a maximum of 12 wavelengths;
  • BACKLIGH – GB210280-MS: used for applications requiring retroflexed light, it is characterised by the switching on of a single wavelength from 0 to 100% or by the simultaneous switching on of more than one wavelength, up to a maximum of 12 wavelengths.

To conclude, the Multispectral System requires the combined use of two software systems in order to function properly, namely, one developed by Genesi for the control of the 12 wavelengths, and one, the Pylon Camera Software Suite, developed by Basler for camera management and image display.

Fields of Application:

  • Optical sorting in machine vision;
  • Waste recycling;
  • Chemical analysis of material composition;
  • Food safety and inspection;
  • Medical and healthcare sector;
  • Pharmaceutical production;
  • Semiconductors and photovoltaics;
  • Mineralogy and Mining.
