Multispectral SWIR led bar for SWIR CAMERA
Multispectral lights for vision systems have been used for many years. The typical and most used configuration is a halogen light, very similar to the solar spectrum, with band-pass filters on the camera in order to have only the required wavelengths. The typical applications are:
- optical sorting in machine vision;
- waste recycling;
- chemical analysis of material composition;
- food safety and inspection;
- medical & healthcare;
- pharmaceutical manufacturing;
- semiconductor & photovoltaic;
- mineralogy & mining.
The technique consists in the lighting of the object to inspect, using only the wavelength selected to highlight and identify the target, for example the presence of water in a solid object or to select the types of plastic on the basis of the optical answer of a specific wavelength. The typical disadvantages of these applications are:
- low duration of the light source (+/- 1000 hours);
- overheating and instability of the light source;
- slowness in the replacement of the optical filters on the camera with the rotating mechanism;
- limited number of optical filters;
- light power that can not improve on many wavelengths;
- complicated use of this solution in environments with water, dust and vibrations.
New frontiers for SWIR applications in Machine Vision Recently, new SWIR sensors and cameras have come to market at more affordable prices and better performances passing from 25000 to 8/10000 €, furthermore new led series are available, they have more and more powerful light emissions so much that they are comparable with the halogen lamp emissions. The clear advantages of these new technologies are:
- Use SWIR vision systems for applications where the cost has to be moderate;
- Adopt the SWIR vision where it was not possible before for technical limits (temperature, dust and vibrations);
- Led turning on of the required wavelength, lack of filters on the camera;
- Chance to work with different pulses at high speed, changing the wavelength for every frame;
- Illuminator temperature under 60° C;
- Shape and lengths of the led illuminator optimised for every application for linear or matrix camera;
- Duration and stability of the light emitted over 10.000 hours for continuous use and much more for strobe use.
GENESI introduces two NEW products for these SWIR applications
1) GEVXD multispectral led bar, 12 wavelengths
Use: For laboratories or tests where it is necessary to look for the right wavelength among the 12 available, turning on one or more at once.
2) Power Bar SWIR GEVXD, 1 to 4 wavelengths.
Use: for machine vision applications with linear or matrix cameras where 1 to 4 different wavelengths are needed with independent triggers from UV365 nm to SWIR 1650 nm.
Application fields
> Useful in all the prototype or test machineries where it is necessary to understand which is the most suitable lighting for a particular object, with a single illuminator;
> Useful in all the production machineries that produce the analysis of different
> products on a single line, since with a single illuminator it is possible to have up to 12 different wavelengths;
> Useful in analysis laboratories where it is necessary to highlight material samples
using particular wavelengths.
