ABS606 – led voltage controller
The ABS606 is a high-speed, high-precision controller developed and manufactured by Genesi Elettronica for illuminators and cameras employed in the machine vision field.
The device includes at its inside:
- Set of 4 opto-isolated inputs for trigger signals towards the ABS;
- Set of power outputs for up to 6 LED Illuminators;
- Trigger output for the synchronised control of cameras and lighting systems with low latency time.
As for its ability in generating a hierarchical series of overlapping light pulses and camera triggers when in advanced mode, the controller allows for coordination requirements between different production equipment to be met. Furthermore, when used in conjunction with the camera’s Slave mode, it enables the synchronisation of LED illuminators once the lens is opened.
For this demonstration application, to test the efficiency of our product, we decided to use: a high-performance camera, namely model ITALA supplied by Opto Engineering; two photocells to synchronise the capture of a sharp image of a fast-moving object, specifically a hand; two Genesi Ring Light Gest series LED illuminators, respectively of 200mm and 130mm, driven by the ABS impulse mode.
Test results showed that, despite the speed at which the hand moves in front of the camera, the ABS, equipped with a FPGA system, is able to process the signals received from the photocells, to calculate the hand speed and, lastly, to synchronise the illuminator’s start-up time and camera’s exposure time, both in the order of 5 microseconds circa. This process allows for the acquisition of a sharp and still image.
The procedure is enabled through the automatic alignment of each light pulse by the ABS to the centre with respect to the exposure time of the camera, so to achieve maximum light efficiency with regard to the sensitivity of the camera sensor.
